SUMMARY:A New Type of Capitalism: Canadian Club of Toronto
DESCRIPTION:All eyes are on social responsibility as the business community responds to the pandemic’s economic impacts. Canadian businesses — large and small — have stepped up to support each other and their communities during the pandemic. Leaders agree – those that prioritize community will ultimately be more sustainable\, more resilient and better set up for long-term business growth. Join Canadian Club Toronto on June 8 for a discussion that will feature opening remarks from Guy Cormier\, CEO of Desjardins Group\, and a panel of business leaders including Jenn Harper\, Founder of Indigenous-owned beauty brand Cheekbone Beauty and Kayla Isabelle\, CEO of StartUp Canada – both who have a unique perspective on “doing good through business”\, and supporting their communities and other entrepreneurs along the way. The panel will be moderated by David Skok\, Editor in Chief of The Logic\, Canada’s innovation economy news outlet. Cheekbone Beauty is helping Indigenous youth see themselves in a beauty brand. \nIn addition to Cheekbone’s mission\, she strives to educate as many people as possible about the Residential School System and the effects it has had on my family and friends through decades of generational trauma. She speaks regularly to university\, college and high school students about social entrepreneurship\, empathy and the history of her First Nations family. SUMMARY:Leadership in the Olympic Movement in Canada with Tricia Smith
DESCRIPTION:Celebrating its sixth year\, the 2020-21 Lougheed College Lectures are organized around the theme of leadership and public institutions.\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout this Event\n\n\nThe 2020-21 Lougheed College Lecture series is organized around the theme of leadership and public institutions. Governments\, courts\, universities\, cultural institutions\, public health agencies\, financial regulators and other offices charged with ensuring the public good face special scrutiny from the people they serve. We expect our tax-funded institutions to deliver value for money\, and to act ethically and responsibly to ensure citizen well-being. And we have high demands for accountability and responsiveness. What does it take to lead such organizations\, especially when the decisions are fraught and the stakes are high? How do public leaders engage the people they serve in decision-making? How do they address dissent and controversy? What are the consequences of “fake news\,” the growing skepticism around expertise\, and political polarization for the necessary work of serving the public good? Our speakers will tackle these challenging issues with hard-won insights from the front lines. \nTricia Smith addresses the topic\, Leadership in the Olympic Movement in Canada as a featured guest of the Lougheed College Lectures.\nFrom doping to bribery; expense and politics\, and tensions over the COVID postponement of the 2020 games\, the Olympic movement has had to deal with some serious reputational blowback. To our credit\, Canadians have been at the forefront of upholding Olympic values against some significant challenges. Join PLLC to hear Tricia Smith

SUMMARY:Edmonton WHO - Climate Change and it's Impact on Public Health
DESCRIPTION:EdmontonWHO simulates the World Health Assembly of the World Health Organization (WHO).\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout this Event\n\n\nEdmontonWHO simulates the World Health Assembly of the World Health Organization (WHO)\, this year our conference topic is on “Climate Change and it’s Impact on Public Health”. \nOur goal is to introduce students to the fundamental operations of the World Health Organization and create opportunities for all participants to play a proactive role in learning about global health and policy. The Edmonton World Health Organization Simulation is an interactive three day mock United Nations conference for post-secondary and high school students to debate global health topics.
